Big Buddy/Little Buddy Program

Young people today face a variety of challenges that can have an enormous impact on their education. That is where the Perry School Big Buddy program comes in. The Big Buddy program is a mentoring program, where high school students meet with elementary student at least once a week for 30 minutes. Big Buddies can have a positive impact on elementary students in a way that parents and schools are sometimes unable to. They can be friends, rather than authority figures, and this can create the opportunity for many positive experiences. A Big Buddy listens without passing judgment. They can support students in academic areas, assist in setting goals, and discuss problems that may arise in their little buddy's life. Most importantly, a Big Buddy is a role model. A Big Buddy is there to promote success and motivate a student to be successful in and out of school. This program has a far-reaching effect on our community. We currently have 20 high school students serving as Big Buddies.
