5th Grade Students

Since fall, 4th and 5th grade TAG math students have been preparing for a national math competition. The Noetic Math Challenge is an online competition in which students have 45 minutes to solve 20 above grade-level word problems. These problems require a great deal of logical thinking and knowledge of a variety of problem solving strategies.

The students competed at the beginning of April against 602 other schools. Contest results were reported on April 27th. Of the 13 Perry TAG students who participated, 10 of them received honorable mentions, which means they scored in the top 50% of participants. Due to this honor, they received a printed certificate and name recognition the contest website at www.noetic-learning.com. One fourth grade student achieved the honor roll category, which means the student scored in the top 10% of participants. Due to this honor, the student received a certificate, medal, and recognition on the contest website. Last, team winners from both grades were recognized with a certificate and medal.

While I am certainly proud of the academic accomplishments of our Perry TAG math students, I am also proud of how these students carried themselves and demonstrated perseverance. The contest preparation was no easy feat and they pushed through like champs. Well done, kids! You have a lot to celebrate.
